TO THE EDITOR. : Sin,—l read Mr.E. B. Oargill's letter in lasts Monday's Times. He seems to be rather selfisb in saying the public are only interested in the protection of our particular part of the .beach. I thought.in my ignorance that the whole beach from St. Clair to Lawyer's Head • was the playground of the city and suburbs; but let that pass. What I want to know is. on what foundation is the retaining wall.he advocates hi place of that erected by Mr James Smith to rest, and how, deep is it to go? ' I have been informed-that a well was sunk some two chains distant, immediately in the rear of the proposed wall, and at 35ft nothing but sand was found. Mr Cargill states that the filling in at the rear of the wall he advocates is out of the board's province^ as it will be in the Caversham Borough.
