OTAGO MODEL YACHT CLUB.

Tho above club opened their season, on Saturday afternoon at Lake Logan. Although the weather was fine, a stiff southerly breeze was blowing on tho la.ke. The models were exhibited on tho bp"ating. stages, and were greatly admired by a very large number of people. The commodore of,the club (Mr W. Brittenden), in opening tho fourth seSson of tho 'O.M.Y.C, thanked the largo number of ladies and gentlemen for their presence, and said he considered that it showed extremely well for the future of tho club that their pastimo of model yachting proved not only of iterest to themselves but a source of pleasure to tho large numbers who came down to witness the races. Ho also availed himself of the opportunity of thanking those who had this season started them with valuable trophies to be sailed for, while ho did not forgot tho ladies, who had formed a. committed to make their opening a- success, and provided afternoon tea for a largo number of tho visitor^. The commodore then declared the season open, and started a race for all-comers. The yachts on the run down to the half-mile flag presented a very pretty sight. There was a very close tussle for first place between Meteor, Moonbeam, and Glance, the formor having it by a few feet. On-tho beat to windward the breezo somowliat freshened, and this eeemed to favour the' Meteor, as she left her opponents a considerable distance behind and came in an easy winner, with the Snip second, and Eclipse third, about a length off. Of the new models Mr W.. Martin's Snip (4ft), built by her owner and designed by Mr W. Woods, sailed remarkably well, while sho does both her builder and designor credit, and ought to be heard of this season. The committee brought the afternoon to a close by starting a dingey raco for boys, 16 and underj which brought out eight competitors, a very interesting race being witnessed. The winner turned up in F.. Biggs, jun., with J. Woods a good second, and E. Wilkinson third. The feature of the race war the rowing of Alfie Knewstubb a l.iov of 10 years, of age, who, for one so young, pulled a wonderfully plucky race. The winner - - nresonled with a silver modal by the secretary. •
