THE WRECK OF THE MAITLAND.

(Received May 13, at 9.40 a.m.) The Newcastle and Hunter Eiver Company will present Mr Russell, the hero of the Maitland disaster, with a gold watch and chain and a free pans on their steamers for life in recognition oi bis bravery. At the Marine Board of Inquiry into the wreck of tha Hereward the captain stated that his compaoses <Tsre correct, aad that a propar course was steered. Ha attributed the cause of the wreck to a peculiar current and to the storm. At the inquest on ths Maitiand victims Captain Skinner stated that he had baon in the service of the company for 23 years, and bad made the trip to Newcastle 8000 time?, but this was his first mishap. It was the worst weather he had ever experienced. It would have been certain perdition to have tried to approach the coast.
