I THE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION. I A meeting of the Exhibition General Com* mittee was held yesterday afternoon, wien there were present Mr T. Brydone (the chair- ; man), Hon. T. Fergus, Hon. R. Oliver, and I Messrs J. Hsz'.ett, John Reid, A. C. Begg, A. '( Barr, R. Wilson, W. Cutten, i. Cook, C.Ziele, J. Mitchell, T. W. Kempthorne, R. Glendining. j A. Burfc, J. H. Morrison, J. W. Brindley, and j X: Ram«ay. The Early History Committee reported thab some extremely interesting historical relics had j beenaccepbed with thanks, and that lhe comI mittee had decided to j»sk the City Council td ! lend two pictures, and to inquire'if Mc John . Roberts will lend a portrait of the late Mrs C. j.H. Kettle.—The report tfas abproved, j ' The reports of the Picture Gallery Committee | and the Mining and Metallurgical Committee; | showing satisfactory progress, were also read and (approved. , "'. ...--."- - .The Early Settlers' Committee reported fchafc, | in consequence of the Education Boarcl having i kindly complied with the request of -the'deputation, the committee found themselves in a. position to provide ample occominodation for meetings of the early settlers.. Ifc had also, ifc was reported, been resolved to add a number of ladies to" the cbmmifctee, to be in attendance, as well ss the gentleman, during the 10 days the building is to be at the disposal of the committee. The rooms are to be open from 9to 12 aud 2 to 5 daily, except on Jubilee Day, when they will be open in the afternoon only. ~ Atthe request of the committee Mr Walter Hislop had undertaken to form a small sub-committee to organise the conversazione.—The report was adopted. The-Secretary reported on the precautions to be taken for the prevention of fire ih connection with the exhibition.—Referred to the Building Committee. . Mr R. C. Joi\es sent ih areporfc as to arrangements for electrical lighting.—The report was approved. . Mr A. Thomson presented an interim report , from the. Space Committee recommending that j articles manufactured in the building shonld j be"allowed to be.sold.—Approved. j The Hon. T. Fergus reported the completion j of the annexe and the alteration! bf the stage. j lb was resolved to eehd invitations to the members of the Ministry to be preseiit at the' j opening ceremony on the'22nd March.
