A death which seems to. be surrounded with come peculiar circumstances took pUcs in a private hospital here on Christmas* night. It appears that a young woman, 21, jears of age, named Susan Harriet Campbell. M'Ollciin, whose Father h stated to be harbourmaster at Port Ciialmers, was admitted lo tlis institution cm. Wednesday last on the recommendation of Dr Oraen, who also, it is said, attends;! her two iv? three timfis after her admission oo Christmas Eva. She: apparently, thought her-' self near death, and <iesirad to make a dying declaration. The tuthorities of the institution endeavoured to procure a justico of the peace in the district, bub-were unable to do so. They applied to a justice of the pence of another district, who came and took th«, youug woman's statement at an early hour on Caristmsus morning. She died ou the evening of the same day, having expressed sis her last wish that her body be sent to Port' Cbalmfcr*. In accordance with that wish the authorities of the iustitutiou a*ked Mr Little, an undertaker, to remove the body and ship the remains south. The body was accordingly removed ou Sunday. Little took steps to obtain a death certificate, but was unable to do sj. "While, he was making further inquiries the police authorities intervened and prohibited interment or removal of the.body, pending a coroner's! iuquest.. la the raeautiine. Little baR embalmed the body. An inquest hs* been fixed for ■ to-morrow (Wednesday) at 10 o'clock. '
