SOCIAL GATHERING.
A social was held in the Howe strest Hall on Wednesday evening to welcome the Rev. S. Drake, who is to act as assistant to the Rev. W. Lajcock, pastor of the Dundas street Primitive Methodist Church. The exceedingly inclement weather interfered to some .extent with the attendance, b'nt the gathe'in-; proved a very pleasant one. Mr Johu Roberts presided,and an iotere«tiiigprogi;tmmeof musical items was cone throiigb. The sulos were o.mtrihuted by Mfisdarims -KigAr and Millier and Messrs Aluir. Huitcins, r.ni Robsou ; duets, Misses Uharl- '■ on, Pickarrl, Rjbinaon, and Black, Mrs Robsou and Messrs Rolx-on, Millier, and Muir Miss Mayhow d-livered a recitation, while anthems were rendered by the choir, the accompaniments bein" played by Mr 11. Blank. Speeches were also dEhvi-rtd by Messrs J. Wilkinson, F. Graham 1) WriKlil-, aud the Rev. Messrs Layconk, Drake! and Bradbury. During the evening Mr Thomas Adams, organist:, was presented, on behalf of the congregation, with a collection of hymn books while a similar presentation was made Mrs Adams ou behalf of tbe Sunday school. Durin" an interval in the proceedings refreshments were distributed.
