According to a notica in the Gazstte the president and membtrs of the Arbitration Court are to bs paid two guineas per day while absent from their place" of residence, and tha chairman and members of Conciliation Boards one guinea for esch day's sitting, and £X 10s when absent from home. Travelling fares will also be allowed. These rates are to date bsck to last; fear.

April 12 is fixed as the day for the'first election of the council of the Law Soaiscy. The arrivals in the colony duriug February were 1612, and the departures 1781 In February last year the figures wera 1510 and 1731. The departures curiously enongh were identical in both ingt&nccg.

New telephone regulations and scale of charges ate gazetted. The department cowfcsfee3 power to refuse to connect with any place used for illegal, immoral, or improper purposes, aad the new regulations provide against strangers being allowed the use cf telephones. Tfco rates are raised to £7 for basinsfs and £5 for private houses where an exchange is open continuously, and £5 where it is only open during fixed honrs. The additional chsrge for mileage is altered from £1 per mile or fraction thereof to 10s per quatter>mtte or fraction. Whan any connection is over a mile the applicant will ba requited to hold it for three years. For connections over three miles subscribers will be required to p*y for the'erection of the additional line and £1 for each quarter of a mile as maintenance.
