CELEBRATING THE ANNIVERSARY. FRENCH IRRITATION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. London, October 21. To-day beics the anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar, Nelson's sfcatae wai gaily decorated. Among the wreaths placsd on the monument was one from the Colonial Institute. The newspapers, in patriotic articles, insist that tha navy should ba increased. The Navy League bad arranged with 200 towns to celebrate the bafctte of Trafalgar. Vast crowds assembled in Trafalgar square and intense enthusiasm was displayed. Many of the irouclads setit wreathß, and flags were flying from public buildings and clubs. October 22. Two hundred and fifty towns cslebrsted the anniversary of the Trafalgar victory. Special enthusiasm has been shown at Chatham, Portsmouth, Eochester, Yarmouth, and Cardiff.
The famous flag signal of Nelson was exhibited over the monument in Trafalgar square. • Montreal was decorated, and both Toronto and Hongkong sent wreaths to be placed on Nelson's* utatue.
Mr Nei'd, a member of the New South Wales Parliament, in a letter to the press, regretted that there was not & sicgle wreath from Australia received, from which ho concludes that, the colonies had not been invited to participate, bat next year he hoped this would be remedied.
Mi- Goschen, First Lord of the Admiralty, refused pnrmisaion for a guard of sailors and marine.! to be on the ground, as it was not fa accoTfJiiuce with the custom of the service. Tescbers in board schools had strictly emphasised the importance of the celebrating' of the Trafalßar victory, and workmen eagerly bought literature referring to the battle."
Thousand* of! sailors were admitted into tha Indian Exhibition gratis.
