EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Otago Educational Institute was held at the Normal School on Saturday. Mr Garrow presided, and there was an unusually large attendance. The Secretary of the Educational Institute of Otago wrote stating that the Committee of Management would be pleased to receive nominations for the council's meeting to be held in Auckland on January next. —Messrs Davidson, Jeffery, and White were nominated. The recommendations of a committee of the branch appointed to report as to the'best means of popularising the institute were discussed, and it was resolved that the general monthly meetings be f-bolished ; that an executive committee meet monthly ; that the executive committee may at any time call a meeting of the branch; that on the requisition of fiv« or "more members the executive committee shall call a meeting to consider the business set forth in the requisition; that the executive committee be elected at the annual meeting of the branch, and consist of seven members, together with the president and the secretary, five to form a quorum; that the subscription be graded ; and that a sccir-1 gathering be held sunuully. It was inevcd that a room be procured for the use of the members, and that the leading educational periodicals be obtained, bnt after some slight discussion the motion was referred to the incoming committee to t&ka into consideration. The following were elected an executive committee, to hold office until the next annual meeting in June:—Misses Hooper, Cairnß, Anderson (North Taieri), Messrs W. Gray, Jeffery, Eudey, and Davidson.
