TO THE KDITOH. Sib, —The question touched on by " BxBriti»h Tar" is one of very great importance not only to thin colony but to the Empire, and ' with the legislation which we are passing in this colooy, and legislation of a kindred class in Great Britain, we ara stopping the youth of the Empire from becoming seaman. Tttia question has been dealt with in Parliament by Mr Thomas Mackenzie, member for Ciutha, and if his figures are reliable he shows very clearly : that it is only a question of time when tho ships of oar nation will be almost entirely manned by foreigners. In page 672 of Hansard, Mr Macitenzie shows how the apprentices are diminishing, although the total shipping of the nation is ■ incressiug:— ' ' DRINK SPRING BLOSSOM TEA.
