Arthur Harry Cutler has been appointed a, cadet in the Supreme Court at Dunedin.

There were eight bankruptcies last week—a brickmaker, a farm manager, a wheelwright, a contractor, a tobacconist, a farmer, and two storekeepers. About 100 Tennessee quail were brought from America by the Mariposa to the order of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society.

Mr G. Humphreys, s'Christchurch merchant, who has just returned from the United States, told a Press representative that in the several prohibition States he parsed through prohibition was regarded as a farce, and liquor could be got by asking for " cold tea." The work of the pupils attending Miss Peter's art millinery classes ia at present being exhibited in that lady's rooms in the Octagon. The work comprises hats of every description made out of crinkled paper, and also hats made for ordinary wear. The pupils bave only been attending the classes for six weeks, and although many have had no previous experience whatever they have turned out woik whioh even to the unpractised eye of a male critic is manifestly of a first-class order. The work is well worth a visit of inspection, and members ot the fair sex should tako the opportunity of attending at Misft Peter's rooms before the exhibition is closed.
