-,'.■''-. Sidney, January 18. Tbe improved tone of the silver market noted last week was well sustained. Good business was done at improved prices, with a Btrong advance on Thursday, following the rise of silver in London, but afterwards eased slightly and closed somewhat irregular. Broken JHill Proprietary were taken at 59s 3d. Other leading Broken Hills show an equal improvement. Gold .shareß participated in the improvement, and there wasja good turn oyer in West Australian lines at a higher figure. The KopaiVermont sales took place at 9a and 8s Gd, at closing sellers asked 10s and buyers offered 8a 6d. Investment stoqkß continue to steadily improve, and there is an active demand and good advancos, bauk shares attracting special attention. ■■■.-.• , - •:' Melbourne, January 18. The market closes firm. Throughout the week both silver and gold shares were in active demand at improved prices. Investment stocks wero well supported. A splendid reef struck in tho Fernhill mine, near Grantaton, dollied, from different parts of the reef, from 20oz to 3Qoz to the ton, . Further rich returns were also obtained* from the Omeo district. The Highland Chief Company crushed 36 tons for over 300oz gold, while a party of prospectors at One Tree Hill crushed 251b of stone for nearly £900 worth of gold. Another parcel of from 101b to 121b is estimated to yield close on lOOoz. The -reef varies from lOin to 18in, and has been traced a long distance. Adelaide, January 18. Business on t)ie mining market showed an unusually large turnover, and higher prices ranged. all round, West Australian stocks claiming a large share of attention. In Broken Hill proprietary shares there have been large Eales,'and final transactions were made at 62*. ' , - --.'■- Perth, January 18.
