Good business was done at improved prices, with a Btrong advance on Thursday, following the rise of silver in London, but afterwards eased slightly and closed somewhat irregular. Broken JHill Proprietary were taken at 59s 3d. Other leading Broken Hills show an equal improvement. Gold .shareß participated in the improvement, and there wasja good turn oyer in West Australian lines at a higher figure. The KopaiVermont sales took place at 9a and 8s Gd, at closing sellers asked 10s and buyers offered 8a 6d. Investment stoqkß continue to steadily improve, and there is an active demand and good advancos, bauk shares attracting special attention. ■■■.-.• , - •:' Melbourne, January 18. The market closes firm. Throughout the week both silver and gold shares were in active demand at improved prices. Investment stocks wero well supported. A splendid reef struck in tho Fernhill mine, near Grantaton, dollied, from different parts of the reef, from 20oz to 3Qoz to the ton, . Further rich returns were also obtained* from the Omeo district. The Highland Chief Company crushed 36 tons for over 300oz gold, while a party of prospectors at One Tree Hill crushed 251b of stone for nearly £900 worth of gold.
