AUSTRALASIAN MEDICAL CONGRESS.

PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME.

Information has been received that 23 deiogate3 to the Australasian Medical Congress, which is to be opened in this city on Febiuary 3, left Melbourne for New Zealand by the Talune on Wednesday last. The Tasmanian contingent is expect9d to join that boat at Hobait, and the remaining Australian delegates will come on either by the steamer leavirjg Melbourne next Wednesday or by steamer from Sydney to Duoeuin via Cook Strait. His Excellency the Governor is to open the coagrese, and the .Premier will, if his eagagenients will allow of it, also be present; but if he canuot attend, the Government will be represented by one of the other Mini(.terß.

The arrangements for the congress are in a forward Btate, bnt they are, as yet, necessarily subject to alteration, this applying to the social more perhaps than to the business side of the gathering, for it is understood that a number of citizens are anxious to assist in the entertainment of the delegates, but, owing to tho unceriei<itr as to thi dates which oould be assigned . t <-m •m.vi- h s uted to definitely declare their iiiAutijua in i uali direction. The congress will meet, as above mentioned, on the 3rd February. At 10 a.m. tho delegates, mil assemble at the university for the enrolment of members, and the congress, having been constituted, trill then resolve itself into a baßinssß meeting of an important character, the president for next year.having to be appointed and the place of the next meeting selected. At 2.50 p.m. the mayor will welcome the delegatea at the, Town Hull and, that function over, a garden part; will be held at Fcrnhill Club. In the evening Lord Glasgow will preside at tho formal openiog ceremony.

On the Wh prox. the business of the congress will commence in earnest at the university. At 10 a.m. addresses on "Medicine" and " Surgery" will be delivered before tho full csngrees, which will thereafter resolve itself into sectional meetings. In the early part of the afternoon the sectional meetings will be continued, and it is tmders'ood that Mrs W. H. Keynolds will, later on in the B».me day, enterfa'n the members at a garden party, in the evening an address on "Anatomy " will be delivered before the congress, and after that tho members of the Savage CJub will furoieh an entertainment in the University buildings.

On Wednesday, the sth prox., »n important discussion upon " Tuberculosis " and its special connection with animal diseases will be opened in the morning by members of the profession, who have beeu asked to address themselves to the branches of the subject ia which they are particularly versed. Ssvecal veterinary surgeons have promised to be present at this di*cu«sion. At 3 p.m. the members will bo present at the opening by his Excellency the Governor of the Otago Golf Club's links, and in the evening they will be entertained at a ball given by Dr Liodo Ferguson, the president of the New Zealand Medical Association.

The opening business on Thursday, the 6th February,' wiU consist of the delivery of an address on "Pablic Health," and sectional meetings will follow. At 3 p.m. the members will leave for a trip to Portobello, Dr Brown and Mr G. Gray Russell being the hosts. The evenicg is free for private entertainment.

On Friday, the 7th pros., an address on " Obstetrics" will be the first item o£ business and it will be followed by the usual sectional meetings. For the afternoon alternative drives, with luncheons, have b»en arranged. One of these will be, at Mr A. Thomson's invitation, to the Wai-ro>'goß springs, North Taieri, the congress providing drags for the members; and the alternative will be a drive to Blueskin where Drs Barnett and Fulton will ba tbe hosts at luncheon. In the evening the delegates will ba entertained by Dr Batchelor, president of the coagrea», at a bill.

On Saturday, the Bth, a business meeting will be held in the forenoon, aad the proceedings of the eoDgress will terminate.
