THE COLONIAL BANK.
TO THE EDITOH.
Sic, —Your leading article of the 15*h icst, about the bank's lowering of the rate'of interest will be widely read. It looks pretty clear fche.fi the Colonial Bank directors acted wisely id dis■jJosing of tho businesa. Interest will becomb lower still, aud shareholders will not have any difficulty in being convinced of the difficulties which tne bunk would have had in making a profit. I refer your readers to an article in the Argus of the lsli inst, reviewing the monetary position of banks aud building Bocieties for the lsst year. Shareholders of tho Colonial Baafc, after reading this article, would feel thankful thai the bank was disposed of. If shareholders had to pay the large calls which have boeD made in Victoria they would have something to cry oat about.—l am, &0,, I January 16. Financier.
