CRICKET.

CANTERBURY v. OTAGO,

CHRisTCHtrecii, January 17.

The Canterbury Cricket Association, at a meeting to-night, decided to appoint a subcommittee to interview probable representatives and theiremployers with a view to ascertaining the most suitable dates for the annual match with Obago. The local association intends making every effort to send its strongest team .to Ofcago this year.

Thehon. secretary of the Dunedin Cricket Club writes: —" In yesterday's issue of your •paper the treasurer of the University Cricket Club-avers that-the complaint made through jprir-colnmns by tbe Dunedin Cricket Club against! their No. 1 President's Cap tsam for failing . keep their engagement with tho Dunedin No. 1 on the Exhibition ground was ■uncalled for, and that the mutch was arranged for the Caledonian ground. In reply I wi»h to contradict this statement, £5 at the meeting of secretaries called to fix the grounds for the second round of cup matches (when the University representative w&a conspicuous only by his absence) I arranged with the gentlemen who kindly officiated on their behalf to lea7e the ground opea, a3 both the Caledonian grouud and Oral were occupied on that day. After some trouble a wickeb was procured on the Exhibition ground, and the fixture was advertised in Saturday morniDg's paper by our club. Surely this announcement should hive bean 'sufficient seeiug that the Cup Committee had drawn all the matches and dacided the dates. If not, it, was clearly their place to consult with the members of oar club i.'itttead of letting matters'slide simply because the Cycling Club's sports were, being held oa the Caledonian ground." ■ ' '.
