NEW ZEALAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association, held laet night in Watson's Hot«l, was attended by Messrs D. M'Pherson (president, in the chair), W. Wilson, F. Peake, A, Malheson, M. Sinclair, C. luverarity, C Fymnore, T. Moodis, J. G. Moore, T. R. Dodd*, E. R. Gr*eu, J. Louden. G. Capttick, aud R. T. Wheeler (hon. secretary). Messra C. F. Greensladfi, J. li. Hislop, and J. Horsburgh wrote apologising for their abseiie;.
Letters wore re.id from Mr J. H. Mentiplay, honorary secretary Northern Bowling Association, asking the view of the association as to the advisability of holding champion matches in which all affiliated clubs could take part. Nothing definite had been dene in the matter, bnt it wan suggested that the early part of March would suit. Tbe Wellington bowling clubs could acoommodate 30 rinks ou the three greens.—lt was rewlvad to reply tbat the association desired to meet the northern bowlerp, but there were.difficulties in the way at present— snea as the tournament at Auckland, —but thus some arrangements will be suggested as to c*rryiog ouS the meeting of the bowlers of the North aod South Islands at a fulura date. Mr J. H. MentipUy also wrots notifying that it is the intention of the Northern Bowling Association to hold a tournament in Auckland, commencing on Monday. 24th February text, when it is flxpeottd that teams from Sydney and Melbourne will be present, aud inviting any members of the association who can fiud it convenient to attend. The Northern Association also intended to make use of the opportunity of so large a gathering of bowlers and the presence of many Australian friends to bold a coufereaoa and go thoioughly into the rules of the game, with a view to a standard being sat up on the best basis. He »!so notified tbat he had been asked by tbe Nsw South Wales Association to join in an invitation to a tc*m of Scotch bowlers to come out to the colonies. Copies of letters to and from Scatland anent the proposed visit, sent from Sydney, were enclosed. Hr Mentiplay said ha would be plessod to co-operate with tho New Zealand Bowiing Association in sending a joint invitation through their Sydney friends.—lt was reeolved that the association join with the Northsrii Bowling Association in extending » hsarty welcome to th« Scottish bowlers, and thnt tbe secretary .intimate to the Northern Bowling Association that it was intended to write direct on the subject. . It wa» decided to authorise Mr C. F. Greenslade to represent the aasooiaSon at the conerence to be held at Auckland. '
A letter waa read from Mr Waddell, Oamatu, Rnggesting that, in viaw of the I»ct of co many bowlers annually visiting the oli country, some arrangement through the Rwsociation might be rnado whereby, a mitsh or matches could bo played on som* of the greens at Home. Mr Wm. Be'o and hinwe'.f and a probable third enthusiastic bowler proposed leaving for Scotland at the end of March or April next, and the idea occurred to thrm on reftdiog- of the proposed visit of tho Scottish team to the colonies.—The secretary was authorised to writs asking the various affiliated clnbs to advise tbe secretary of aoy members inteadiug to visit Scotland, with a view to acting .ou Mr Waddell's suggestions. The secretary was requested to invite from the olnb3 interested nominationii for tha tour to play clubs south of Dunedin early in February. Mr Dodds handed to the president copies ot rules of the Wellington Bowling Challenge Pairs which he bad received from Captain Edwin, the secretary of that club.—The copies were duly circulated amougst the representatives or the clubs present.
