: ,'/..'..:'' Napies, July: 26. At'a'crowded and thoroughly representative meeting at the Town Hall to-iiight it was decided to form an Insurers' Protective Association. Figures were quoted to show that the rates were very much higher in Napier than in towns similarly situated and with no better water supply, or fire-eztinguishing plane. A strong feeling was manifested to insist-on a great reduction in premiums and the removal of anomalies. The general opinion waß in tavour of working with exiating companies if reasonable rates could be arranged, but if not that the-leading firms and business men should join in guaranteeing a large amount qfr'insuiance for a fixed period to any outside company willing to come to terms. A atroDg committee was appointed to cinvaes the town. ;; A reeplution was also carried, but with many dissentients, in favour of municipal insurance. :

The time for receiving eatries for exhibits does not close till August 7; but already applications for 8772 square feet of 6pace have been received. The Executive Committee to-day decided to increase the size7 of the buildings now being erected on the Drillshed ground by adding,a# aaaeza 84ft Icing and 50ft wide. Nearly the. whole of the ground ig covered by buildings, which will be 282 ft long byß4f6wide.. Besides this structure the drillshed itself and the adjoining gunshed will be filled with exhibits. INVEKCABQILL, JoJy 26, The Chamber of Commerce to-day endorsed the resolution of the Ounedin arid Chrißtchurch Chambers re the assignment of book debt? and the status of District Court judges and stipendiary magistrates. It wan also resolved— " That in the opinion of this Chamber the 20 percent, redaction made by the Government on the rail freights of agricultural lima for six-ton lots should be extended to one and a-half-ton lots, and that all other manures should be placed on the same footing." The Band Contest Committee met to-night, end resolved to apprise the Bands' Association a.nd the bands interested that tile Invercargill Harrison Band has issued a summons for the prize money, and that the committee does not intend to defend, but will abide by the magistrate'B decision. It has also resolved to ->-et counsels advice as to whether the trustees should pay the £100 in dispute into court, and so avoid payment of costa, or hold it till the de?:s:oa of the court is given.
