[AimI.] ' ' MACHINERY BELTINGf. — REPLY TO EXTRAORDINARY STA'TEMENTS'PUBLISHED BY JOHN EDMOrfD, DUNEDIN. ' " ' TO THE EDITOE. (Copy letter sent to John Edmond, Dnnedin.) Dunedin, 15th July 1895'! ' To Mr JohD Edmond, Dunedin. Sir, —Oar attention has been drawn to an advertisement m the Otago Daily Times of 12th and 13fch inst., in which you give the farfamed Lancashire Pafcept Belt a good free advertisement, showing off its many good qua^ties against inferior belts. We" also note that you publish what are supposed to be true copies of two jirivate letters yon forwarded to ns, bearing dates 24-th and 25th nit. Unfortunately for you, when comparing them with what you published the wording does not agree. (Strange this should be so!) Haying given now your letters quiet consideration,• and seeing that such differences in wording your private letters exist to those pub^ lished, we certainly have grave doubts as to the genuineness of the matter you state, go have taken what appears the wisest step, and forwarded your published statement and espies, of your private letters to Lancashire Patent Belting Company, where they will receive attention and be dealt with. " Pending same "we have withdrawn the circular. As publishing private correspondence appears to be your weakness, we may as well stats a few facts regarding Lancashire Patent Belting which we wish to be publicly known: — .IheLANCAsniEB Patent Belt has now been over 30 years in the market, has stood continuously to the front during that time against all other classes of belts, and to-day is the Daddy of all Belts; is the strongest and most durable belt in th.c market, and has less stretch than any other belt. The tensile strength of various belts tested by David Kirkaldy and Son (experts) shows 6-inch Lancashire Patent Bait broke at 77781b—an extraordinary strength. The Lancashire Patent Belt is not affected by acid, damp, or heat, as the belt you name (or stock), its component parts bain"- gutti persha. We loave the public to judge how much heat gutta percha will stand. What say you? ' The Lancashire Pathkt Belt has taken test place at all the principal exhibitions and public trials (of any note) throughout the globe, also most of the medals and first orders of merit wi I'Vn* u3O yearfl- We see ao mention of Balita Belt, however. The Lancashire Patent Belt's latest Tn ,7™ :Award »6plome d'Honneur and Gold Medals at Antwerp Exhibition, in Belgium sechon, also in French section, thus secunng a douHe triumjS over seventesn competitors?, and to-day is known as the " Woeld's Best celt. ■ The,main fact of your resorting to publish pnvate correspondence probably emanated from the strong hold Lancashi E e P AT isiT Belting hasten the public mind a 8 to ite good qualities, as evident the other day you were in competition or rather attempted dmpttitwn, with ourselves for a large belt, you quoting for same, after reduciog price, together with your man's constant attondawa on. customer's doorstep asserting that Lancashire Patent Belt was not in use here, and L V B was not in use there, while you knew perfectly well your, trouble all the time was to find out where Lancashire Patent Belt was not in use, and as a last i-esource published the correspondence (private) above-named as a final step to secure the order, which failed,, and resulted upon the order being hooked hy owntlves at list price, and given upon the merits of the Lancashibe Patent Bblting, ita strength, laßt, and durability. This we trust you will publish. Yours, &c, Robt. B. Denniston and Co., Lancashire Patent Belting Depot.
