The number pLenfeieß showed a faliing off as cbmps.red with last year, but there was a disfcmcfc improvement in the quality of the bir^B exhibited; The decrease in entries was due to the fact that the show was held so soon after that;oE the Oamaru society that Donedin fanciers were anable to ba represented as was the case in previous years. YD- L Christie.^pile game, 159 points. .j, Orooke^nd Morris, duckwing game, duckwing game, Andalugiane, G.P. Hamburgs, 144 points, 3? Mr B. Hart was a large prize-taker, and his numerous exhibits were inspected with mocb. interest. In red game cocks his Christchurch winner easily carried off first prise. The winner of the second prize is also a neat bird but somewhat on the small side. The same exhibitor won again in hens, taking fist and second with two stylish specimens of tbeie breed. The winner of the third prize was not quite up to tha modern type. In the cockerels, i iirst and second prizes again fell to Mr Hart : both birds possessing many excellent points,' ! while he carried off first prize amongst black! j red puUeta with a bird that would be hard to teatlin the best of campsny. The'second and third pr.ze-takers were hkmrin very nest pullets. The piles, comprising six entries,'were on the whole, somewhat rough. The first prize cock, belonging to 5Jr Christie, won easily while the;same gentleman Becored first" and special amongst the hens wiSi a .y^y doge . specimen. The four pQe cockerels possessed- no particular merit, while the same remark may be applied to the pullets. Dnckwimr cocks were represented by four fairly good birds the winner being rather behind on his moalfc . JLhe sa dutkwmg hens were of average quality! the first prize-taker belonging to Messrs Crook ana Clams, being an old winner. The~cockerel and pallets call for no special meotfen. In the i^lymouuh Rock there was only one entry ia the two aault classes. The pair were exhibited by Mr Jaaiieson, of Invercargill, and were good types of their breed. Three cockerels were entered, aad Mr Jamieson's exldbiis won with » goad deal to spare. The Sranish class as a whole were of medium quality, Xhe Spwuth puilet shown by Mr J.T. Nichola, andwhieatoek hret prise, was a good bird, but iaclined to be a little scaly on the lega. The Minorca cock belonging to Mr R. F. Snowden, awarded first and special, was a capital specimen.' The four cockerels were an even lot, the first prize-wrnner belonging to Mr G. K. Joyce, of InverargiU. being rigntly placed, but the second prize-taker, belonging to Mr Eggleatone, was Eot far behind. Five Minorca ppdlets were exhibited.' The first and second prize-takers (belonging to Mr J Taylor, Milton), were first-class birds, and wili befieardofagain. In the class for Andaiusiaa I cocks there were five entries, > but there was no special merit about any of them. The first prize-taker amongst, the eight Andaluslaa hens was a fine bird^and was remarkably well laced. Mr G. Aitcheson, of Kaitangala, how.ever, ran the winner very - closely. Mr J. Egglesfcone's first prize cockerel may rightly be described as the best Andßlnsisn in tfee mala clas3. J.he same gentleman's first prize pallet had also many good traits, and win probably develop into - a good bird. The second prize pellet, belonging to Mr Bloy, would probably have secured more points had it not been that at carried rather a .high Ui^ None of. the white; Legboros need' b| singled pat easerf; Jit W. Hamilton's first prize "pallet and first and special prize cockerel, the latter being specially good in colour. Brown Leghorns were wefl represented, the first and special pxiz* cocks fctsionging to Mr Miller, of Mosgiel, being rather handsome specimens. The htns are fair, b«t were not shown to advantage. The.first aad second prize-takers amongst the brown Leghorn cockerels were really good specimens end ran each other very closely, the first prise bird teating the other in comb. Tbe brown Leghorn pullet taking first prize amongst the 11 entered was a good all-round bird,' and will probably be heard of next year. The second and third were behind in size, while' the third was a little "off" as regards colour. In ol£ss "any variety," Mr A. Crooke, of Lawrence, exhibited a novelty, comprising three " duckwiitg Leghorns." They were the first sceciioens of their breed ever exhibited in Otsgo' or Soathlsnd, and created no little interest. With one exception Mr J. T. Nichob was respoßsiUe for every entry in the Langshans, Mr Joyce, who got third prize for his cockerel, being the other competitor. The stiong' point abonfc Mr Nichols's exhibition was his cockerels, while his first prize hen hss never been betten. The only Langshan cock was a stylish bird, and had some-exceUeirf; pointy about him; Mr Hart bad the PoSish class' to himself, showing in all 12 birds, waich would be hard■ to beat anywhere. The. bird taking first and special was importqd from Melbourne. The second prize-taker amongst.tha hens would probably have exchanged places with the first prize-winner were it no! that she was rat'ber white in the bill. The dark Brahma cock was sadly oat in condition, but the firstprize hen was nicely marked and of good colour.' The cockerel was a very promising bird. In the light Brahma classes Mr Lloyd's first and special prize cock was a handsome bird, his marking being very clear. There was only one exhibit worth mentioning in the Dorkings, and that was the dark hen belonging to Mr Q. EJaude, of Invercargill. Mr Hart again bad the Wyaudottes to himself, showing nine birds. The fii-aS and second priza cockerels were two very even birds. Tbe first prize hen and pullei . were also good specimens. Mr P.i M'Cann, of ; Tapauui, exhibited » pair of Isle of Man birds cock and hen —which were examined with a good deal of interest, as they are the first specimens of their type over shown in New Zealand. The bantam class was. a good allround one, the prize pile game bantam beinc a typioal bird. Mr Hart won with lira Seabrighfcs in the class " any other variety " Mr George Dickspn won the most of the prizes in the golden pencilled Hambnrgs, his first and special prize bird being worthy of particular mention. The silver pencilled Hamburgs were a fair lot, as were also the silver spangled entries. Mr Thompson's first and special was a mcely spangled bird; the same exhibitor carrying off first and special in hens Three pairs of ducks were exhibited by Mr Hart the first and wd priza Pekins being exceptionally good. Mr H. G. W.lliams,: W it h the Ixceptioi of a pouter cock and hen. shown by Mr Hart, had the pigeon class to himself. H s exhibited 33 birds, all of which were distinctly above the average. The show was coatiaued oa Wednesday, the attendance being fairly good
