» CYCLING. A special general meeting of the Otago Cycling Club was held last evening in the club room, Octagon, and was attended by Messrs A. Thomson (presideut, in the chair), Sim aud. Courtis (vice-presidents), and upwards of 80 members. Mr J. Osborne was elected treasurer, and Messrs Howlison and Inglis were elected life honorary members of-the clnb Suggestions were received as to the best means of raising the necessary funds to form a fast and safe cycling track in Dunedin. It was decided to form, a guarantee fund, apd the sum of £70 was subscribed in the room. Mr L. O. Beal, jun., C.E., kindly attended and gave some valuable hints re track formation, audi was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The Wellington Rowing Club passed a resolution to the effect that the time has not yet arrived for the institution of eight-oared interprovincial contests, as it would be inimical to club interests. At the request of Mr Bloomiield, the stewards of the Auckland Trotting Club have agreed to inquire into the charge that a ticket was rung on the totalisator on the* winner of the Maiden Trot after the horses had started. The inquiry wiil be held on Friday, and will be open to the press. Mr M'Bride, whose horses were disqualified by the Auckland Trotting Club on Saturday, has instructed bis solicitor to take proceedings against the club for defamation of character, and says he intends claiming damages for loss incurred through the disqualification" of his - horecs. He has given the Trotting Club notice not to pay first money to Mr Edwards, owner of Three Cheers, in tbe Easter Handicap, on the ground that Edwards is alleged to have been disqualified lor one month from Ist May by the-Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Association.
