NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.

(Per United Pbess Association.) Trent-lam, March 13. Everything is in readiness for the opening of the thirty-fourth annual meeting of the New Zealand Ri3e Association to-morrow, and the camp to-night is very lively with competitors arriving and fixing up quutera. Upwards of 70 tents have been pitched, yet tho accommodation is taxed to the utmost, and in some instances there is over-t.rowd.Dg. Tee new regulation as to depositicg half the cost of the week's catering has no doubt bad a ralutary effect, and this year few of the competitors will be living out of camp. The weather to-night is perfect, and fibootists generally admit if it continues eosie great scoring will be registered. The range is in bettor condition, Mr M'Cnllough, the owner, having cut down a belt of bush which tume of the shootitts thought" n.t conducive to good shooting, and also all the raupo and scrub which had grown up between i the firing points. The entry list is not yet comi plet _, but Mr Baggett, secretary, expects tbat !it will reach fully 220. Major Sommerville is jin charge of tho camp, aud has Captain , Collins, of Wellington, with him as chief of the council tent. The camp is connected by | telegraph,' Messrs Ballantyne and Simmons. j working the office, while Hi T. Davis has I charge of tte ammunition aud the post office. First-class quarters for catering for the men have been erected by Mr Fountain, caterer, and I all that is desired to complete the success of i the meeting is good weather. General regrets !is expressed that Mr James Parslow, of Auck--1 laud, an e_-champion and one of the most popular shooting men in the colony, should have been injured a day or two ago in camp while wrestling, and it is not improbable that the nature of the injuries may ' compel bis absence from the competition. He is still in camp, and with complete, rest may yet take part, but it is doubtful. Ths shooting is fixed for 10 a.m., but more likely it will be about noon when tho first shot is fired. There will be no efiicial ceremony.
