NEWS FROM FIJI.
(Pub United Pbess Assocutioh.) Auckland, March 13. The Taviuni, from Fiji, encountered a hurricane on ihe passage. Captain Smith was washed Wft along the deck and injured, narrowly escaping being washed overboard. The direction of the hurricane was towards New Caledonia and New Hebrides, and bad news may be expected from these places. His Excellescy Sir John Thurston, Govtrcor of Fiji, was a passenger by the Taviuni, and prcceedri by her to Wellington. Ho hid expended £10,000 in the relitf of tho sufferers by the recent harricmie. The devastation was confined to one-fifth of the area, of the colony of Fiji. Fifteen thousand persons are now iv receipt of relief, which will have to be ~ r . continued for four months. The Rewa 1 delta had suffered most. The native who murdered a German trader at Gilbert group, and who was tried at Fiji, was to be executed on Friday next. Sir John goes to London, and returns in September to Fiji by the Vancouver route.
