Mr Sehey, after, upsetting the order of Governmeat business, carried his victory further by securing the, suspension of the .Bta-dio(* Orders to permit the Eight HourBill to be passed thi'ongb all its stages. The bill pn.vide-.fur a uniform eight hours, with certain exceptions, and Imposes fines and imprisonment on employers and employees exceeding eight hoars work. It also'applies to railway wot!;, waier supply, and tbe Marine Board. The indolent manner in which members of the Legislative Assembly viewed the ; measure favours tha opinion that its fate in the Council is certain. In Committee members merely contented themselves by pruning the penalties. The third reading ia fixed for to-night. The Daily Telegraph, referring to the matter, says the proceedings are humiliating to the Government, and there was not the slightest pretence of urgency to justify the serious interruption of work the Government have ia hand. The Herald says that such higti-handed interference with Ministerial responsibility was hardly %ver attempted before, and certainly was never acquiesced in ■by the Ministry. The Government, it says, appeared insensible to humiliation, and it is impossible to doubt, that they have irrevocably lost the statu3 of $ower by their inability to make their will respected and by the msekness with which they accepted defeat. Tbe bill, says' the Herald, has not the slightest chance of becoming law. !Sir H. Parkes denies that he intends to move a vote of censure on the Government. In the' Assembly, Mr Watkin moved the adjournment in order to condemn tbe action of the Government in grading'.'poiico to Miijtoir in connection with the colliery strike. Several Labour members mado accusations of a partisan spirit and of favouring ■ the colliery proprietors. They also alleged that the Government were lending assistance in the eviction of miners. Ministers denied the charges, and asserted tbat it was their duty and intention to' maintain law .and order, and they, wodW take any steps they deemed necessity for the purpose. Sir H. Parkes urged tho Government to introduce legislation compelling an investigation of trade dispntef
