WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

(Pee United Pbess. Association.) '~ Nelson, March 11. . The Wesleyan Conference to-day granted permission to the Rev. L. M. Isitt to visit England, with letters of introduction to the English Conference. *■■

The conference passed unanimously the following resolution :—" This conference, while opposed to Government grant* in aid of private schools, expresses its gratification at the renewed interest that is manifested throughout the coldny concerning the nse of a Scripture textbook in the State schools. It hen by expresses its conviction that the introduction of Scripture lessons into our public schools is urgently called for in the best interests of the colony, and it pledges itself to ca-operate with othefc churches in endeavouring to bring about such a change in the Education Act as will pro-, vide for this mutsh-neede'd -reform. .That this" conference records it Unaltered conviction that the drink traffic is the cause of untold crime and misery, and urges that every tffoit should be made to educate the members as regards their co-operation in the work of securing the abolition of the traffic, believing that such abolition will be in the belt interests of the people." i( Returns show 79 bands of h'ojis, with 7504 ik'.mbors; connected with the church.
