PORT CHALMERS POLICE COURT.

(Before Messrs A. Thomson and J. Mill, J.P.s) Indecent Bathing. — Walter Varney and Robert M'Alpine, two young men, were charged with bathing on the ISth inst. within half a mile of the boundaries of the borough, not being a public bath, contrary to section 13, part 13, of the borough by-laws.—Defendants pleaded guilty. —Constable Treacey, in his evidence, said that accused were bathing near the graving dock, Macandrew road, and at the time there were a number of school children and others passing.— Sergeant Geerin stated that he was present with, Constable Treacey when the accused wero bathing. There had been numerous complaints made to the police about young men bathing in public view. There was no excuse for this, as the corporation had provided baths at a very small oharga.— Mr Thomson quoted the section of the by-laws, under which the accused were each liable to afina of £5; but the Bench were, disposed to deal leniently with them, and inflicted a fine of la each, without costs. '
