RAVENSBOURNE REGATTA.

The annual regatta was held at Ravensbourne yesterday. The weather cleared up about midday, and became quite pleasant in the after- [ noon. A light breeze was blowing, which enabled the sailing boats to carry all their canvas, while the water was sufficiently smooth to admit of the rowing contests being proceeded with without any mishaps. The Winifred pulled off the All-comers' Yauht Race, the Premier being second. The Leader and Matakana, who started with a handicap of three minutes, were third and fourth respectively. The Garrison Band were in attendance and played some capital music. They had the assistance of Mr j R&ttigan, a skilled musician, who formerly belonged to her Majesty's 56th Regiment. During I the day Messrs J. M "Kenzie, R. Jameson, and D G Stephous were the judges, Messrs Robert M'Culloch and P. Sutherland starters, while the secretary (Mr D. Larnach) and vicecommodore (Mr D. H. Hastings) were indefatigable in their labours to make the affair a success. At the close three ohecrs were given for the commodore (Mr Thomas Ross). The following are the results :— Local Challenge Cup Saimko Race.—Six miles. First prize, Cap and £2; second, £2 ; third £1. Volunteer (Webber and Co.), lmin 15sec ... 1 Rambler (Gruitt and Co.), scr 2 Carbine (W. Winton), 3miu 30sec 3 Also started : Rover (W. Webber), Bmin 20sec; Tui(Bateman and Co.), 3min 30sec; Gem (Moller and Hot!), 3min SOaec ; Dash (J. Low), 3min 30« ec ; Pioneer (G. Grafton), 2min 30sec. The race was a capital one, and was closely contested throughout. All Comers' Yacht Race.—Six miles. First prize, £5; second, £2; third, £1. Time allowance, second 3min off first, and third 6min off first. Winifred (Moodie and Brent) ... 1 Premier (Bacon Bros.) _. ... 2 Leader (Baker and Co ) 2 Also started : Matakana (A. Burt, jun), Fleetwing (D. Short), Mistral (W. H. Hutcheson), Ruru (Bannister and Bloxham), Rambler (Gruitt and Co.), Elinor Vernon (Wise and Co.). A good start was effected, but the Leader (which gave the other boats a start of 3min) losb ii lot of time in getting her spinnaker set. At the Btarfc the Matakana (which also gave the other boats a start of 3min) walked away from her. In rounding the buoy the Winifred led, her time at that stage being 2hr 34min ; thp Premier was the nest to ronnd in 2hr 36min, and the Leader third, in 2hr 37min. The Winifred won in 3hr 13£min ; the Premier second, in 3hr 15min ; and the Leader third, in 3hr 16£min.

Wiseman), Patience (A. Lyng). The Vision got away with a strong lead, and ', won in 4ir 32min. The Osprey arrived , second in 4hr 42min, and the Glance was 2mia behind. Fotm-OAREn Wiialeboat Race (Ravensbourne v. St. Leonards). —Ono mile and a-quarter. Prize, £110s. St. Leonards (H. Guyton str, G. Guyton, F. Pigeon, J. Guyton, Mitchell cox) 1 Ravensbourne (S. Low str, G. King, C. Warburton, N. Paterson, J. Moullan cox) _. 2 The race was well contested, and excited a good deal of interest, the St. Lepnards winning with little to spare. Maiden Four-oared Inrigged Gig Race.—One mile. Prize, £2. N.E.S.C.'s Taroi (C. Neave str, F. Lambeth, J. Duthie, D. Munro, J. Lambeth cox) ... 1 P.C.R.Cs Arawa (W. Erridge str, M. Hill, J. Bonner, M. Galvin, B. Lightbourne cox)... 2 The D.A.B.C. and Q.D.B.C. crews who entered did not start. The race was an exciting one from start to finish, the North End only winning by a few inches. Time smin ISsec. Ladies' Fobr-oared Whamiboat Race^-Three-quarters of a mile. Prize, cheat of Spring Blossom Tea and trophies valued at £1. The only crew that entered was the Wairuna (L. Moss str, E. Moss, E. Howes J, Weir, A. Wiseman cox), and they rowed over the course, being greeted with a cheer when passing the post. Junior Four-oased Outrigged Gig Race,— One mile. Prize, £2 10a. D.A-B.C. Taramea (A. Hunter atr, C. Colmub, E. Stohr, J. Hume, J. Moffatt cox) 1 N.E.8.0. Waimarie (M. Higgius str, J. M'Kenzie, J. Stone, J. Breen, J. Lambeth cox) 2 Also stared: Q.D.8.0. Marora (A. Shanks str, W. Porter, S. Innes, S. Asher, J. Watson cox). The 0.R.0. (Loekie str) entered but did not start. A good start was effectad, and the boats kept wall together till near the finish, when the Dunedin c;bi» drew away and won by about half a length. Time, 7iinin. Boys' Dingey Race (17 and under).—One mile and a-quarter. First prize, watch ; second, 10s; third, ss. A. Pirie 1 F.Evans 2 J. Mitchell ... 3 Half a dozen others aleo started. Won by some lengths. Old Residents' Whaleboat Race. — Threequarters of a mile. Prize, cheat of Summer Bloom tea. Rothesay (Stanley str, Smith, Baird, and Grant) 1 Ravensbourno (Winton str, Fitzpatrick, Blackie, and Webber) 2 Won easily The Ravensbourne crew entered a protest ou the grounds that the winners were under agre. The Ot&go Rowing Club was to have hsld a four-oared race f.-ir a cup presented by the Ravensbourne Baths Company. Two scratch crews, stroked by Maitland and JVl'Lean, went through the formality of a, race, but it is understood that these crews were not picked for the event, the proper crews not rolling up, and the olub accordingly do not recognise it as a contest for the cap.
