LAND BOARD.

The regular weekly meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday, and was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs A. M'Kerrow, H. Clark, W. Dallas, and J. Duncan.

Kaitanoata.—Ranger Hunhan having reported on t.hft application of R. M. Sawell fora license to prospect for coal upon section i, block IX, Kaitangata district.—The board deferred consideration of the matter.

Nzntijoks.—The bourd was requested to authorise t.ke Receiver of Land Rcvenve to pay over to Donald M'Lcod the sum of £843, being the amount paid as valuation for improvements upon section 2, block VII, and fection 3, block VIII, Neuthorn district.—Receiver of Land Revenue authorised accordingly.

Ckookston.—A letter was received from John Kirkpainck in regard to the rent of Psstoral Ron spcfciuns 3 and 4, block XV, Crookston district—Matter deferred for a week for further information.

Domkt.—George Sutherland wrote makingan offer for the use of Run 17a, Domet district, for a short term.—Consideration deferrad for a week.

Rankhkbitrn'.—John Tyson and John Dnnlop applied for a renewal of license No. 543, over 20 acres iv block VIII, Rankleburn district, to cut, fell, and remove timber.—License granted over area previously held under license, at the ye».r!y fee of £4, with license fee 21s.

Waipohi.—The secretary of the Waipori Commonage. Committee wrote asking for certain information in regard to lands in blocks IV and V, Waipori dihtrict, over which the committee hekl a license.—Referred to the chief commissioner to rpply.

Maniototo —W. F Inder, on behalf of J. C. YouDg, applied for permission to occupy section 18, block XII, ffiaoiototo district, on condition that he kept the rabbits down.—Declined.

Kutiow.—A letter having been received from the Uudt-r-secrnc.-iry for Lsnds in regard to the application by E A. H. anil E. G. A. Hille to be allowed to surrender their (imall grazing runs 3 of 23 and 4 of 23, Kurow district.—The board deferred the consideration of the matter for further information.

Waipori, Gabriels, and Wetheestones.—A letter was received from the Under-secretaCJ for Lands in regard to vesting the management of the commonage reserves and nnoceapied lauds in Waipori, Gabriels, and Wetherstones districts, in trustees. — Consideration deferred. The position of Wm. Dowling in regard to Run 2Z4p, held tinder small grazing rua license, was considered by the board, and it was decided that be be required to show cause within » month, before the Land Board, why his leage should not be declared forfeited for noa-compliance with existing conditions.

Applications.— H. Wilßon applied for a reduction in the rent fixed for section 29, block I, Naseby district, over which he had been granted a yearly license.—Kentnl to be 6d an acre, instead of Is as previously fixed, in error. A. M'Gregor applied for a reduction in the rent of Run No. 478, Roxburgh district.—lt was decided that the board had no power to reduce the rant of the run. William Scarlett applied for an allotment 45, block 11, Pomahaka Downs estate, under the Land for Settlements Act.—Approved Charles Freeman applied for section 2, bloc!: VII, and section 3, block VIII, Nenthoru district, as a small grazing run.— approved. David Dolphin applied to transfer the small grazing run section 1, block XIII, Swinburn district, to Mrs Margaret Cornwall M'Leod. Approved. Mrs Esther Webb applied under the Mining Districts Occupation Act for an occupation lease of part of section 8, block I (100 acres), Silver Peak district.—Declined. Applicant granted a yearly license nnder section 116 of the act over the section in question, at an annual rent of 6<l per acre, with £1 Is feo.-— Thomas M'Kenzie applied for an area of 200 acres of nnsurveyed land in the Rimu district, under section 115 of the act.—Application granted, subject to survey and other fees being deposited. Mr A. F. M'Kenzie applied to be allowed to purchase section 26, block VTO, Crookston (Water Reserve) —Referred to ranger for report. The Bruce Coal Company applied for a coal lease over 70 acres of land, being section 29, block VII, Akatore district.—Lease granted for 21 years over the area applied for, at a rental of 3a per acre and 6d per ton royalty on the coal, subject to the approval- o£ the Minister for Mines.
