BREAK IN CABLE COMMUNICATION.
Press Association—By Telegraph— Copyright, Adelaide, January 21,
'Xhe interruption on the Port Darwin telegraph line was caused by heavy floods at Warrina, north o£ Strangway's Spring?, where the river is now xtmning a mile wide. The lineman, after being in the water fcr five hours, succeeded in getting a wire across, but as he was about to haul it clear of the water it caught in a snag, and operations had to be suspended owing to darkness, setting in. An effort will be made to get the wire hoisted clear of the water early to-day.
Communication with Port D&win is still interrupted, and no assistance can bp rendered by the Western Australian lines. This morning the repairing party managed to patch up the lino at Strangway's Springs, but they then found the line had also been washed away at Peake, 80 miles further on. It is hoped that this break will be repaired to-morrow.
Peetb, January 21. The northern telegraph line is still interrupted.
