What is practically the inaugural public meeting in connection wijh ths Australasian Federation Lsague will be held on Wednesday, and will bs addressed by the Premiers of New South Wfcles, Sonth Australia, and Victeria. It ia understood that Mr Reid, of New South Wales, will make the principal speech. GOVERNORSHIP OF VICTORIA. Although it has been officially announced that Lord Erassey will succeed Lord 1-lope-toun as Governor of Victoria, thera ia now 3Otne doubt whether he will accept the position, cwiag to the action cf the Legislative Assembly in reducing the salary to LSOOO par annum. A cablegram of a «onfidential nature was received from Horns through the Governor, but its contents have not been allowed to transpire. The Premier, however, vrill ask the Honse to reconsider its decision, (significantly remarking that unless thia is-done he fears that tbe Imperial Government may have some difficulty in getting agitable man for the office. FRUIT CONFERENCE. The Victorian Government have decided to be represented at the Hobart Fruit Conference.
