ORANGEISM.

The twenty-eighth annual session of the Grand Lodge of the Middle Island of New Zealand was held at Gore recently. Delegates and visitors were present from Dunedin(K.W.6.M. A. Carrick), Christchurch, Kimberley, Kaiapoi, Waiuawa, Hororata, Invercargill, Mosgiel, St. Albans, Belfast, Goru, 'J'imaru, Sefton, aud Nelson. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year :—• K.W.G.M., Bro. J. S. Tollerton, Ghristchurch ; R.W.D.G.M., Bro." Mathers, Sefton; G.S., Bro. A. F. Carey; G. treasurer, Bro. M'Clelland; D.G. secretary, l!ro. JCcnneraouth ; D.G. treasurer, Bro. Dilfen; Grand Chaplains, Bro. T. G. Dyson and Revs. Mitchell, T. G. Brooke. G. W. Ellis, Sharp, and

Greig ; Grand Committee—Bros. Caygill, Middleton, Revell, Brownleo, and Horn; auditors, Bros. Nash and Bailey. The K.W.G.M., on behalf of No. 9 District, presented Bro. 0. S. Brass, Invercargill, with a silver five-point medal, in recognition of nine y»ars' service as district secretary. The business, as it appeared on the business sheet, was then proceeded with. The matter of allowing the funds of the private lodges to be spent in refrenhmsnts (intoxicating) was negatived hy 22 to 11.—Several votes were made out of th« benevolent fund to assist in deserving cases of charity, which included a Bum of £2 2s to the Protestant Orphanage in Nelsaa. Tha position of the orphanage was discussed at length, and an ablo address was delivered liy Bro. T. Scott, Nelsou, on the work of the orphanage. It was decided to heartily recommend the claims of the orphanage to the private lodges and charitably-dLsposed persons. It was also decided to approach the Government to obtain a subsidy on the same terms as other institutions of a similar character, but working purely on denominational lines.—A hearty and unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to the past officers, and a P.M. certificate ordered to be presented to P.G.M. Bro. W. A. Ciwrick.—lt was decided to hold the next Grand Lodge at Dunedia during Christmas week 1835.
