MINING.
Mr Jabsz Burton reports:—" The Roxburgn Gold Steam Dredgißg Company washed up 3032 2dwt of gold, value £115 17s 6d, and the Ettrick Gold Steam' Dredging Company Uoz 3dwt 2lgr, value £43 '2s ; both for the week ending Saturday, 27th inst," -.. '■" . . -
The miners who were working at the Premier mine, Macetown,, have been informed that a cablegram has been received that the'directors in England do not intend to* send out the money to :pay wages, and that the men must protect their own interests as the law directs. Most of the men have a registered lien for wages due, in some cases amouutingto £50 and £60. There are over 40 hands to whom three months' pay is due on an avnrage, or some ,£I4OO in all, besides over £1200 to business firms. .
The Hon. J. 6. Ward informed a deputation which waited on him at Invercargill that he would recommend the Minister for Mioes to grant Hanier and party provisions for six months, and it possible a boat, to continue their prospecting at the head of Chalky Inlet. ' '
The Auckland Land Board having resolved to forfeit the whole. of the Great Barrier silver mining leases for non-fulfilment of working conditions, the Minister for Mines has asked the board to carefully consider each case before enforcing forfeiture. ' " . ; -
