ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Masieeton, April 30.
William Taylor, J.P., of Tenui, died in the hospital yesterday after amputation'of the leg. James Stewart, sheep farmer, of Waitawhiti, who had been out pig-hunting yesterday near Tenui, was subsequently found dead, with a ballet wound in his thigh. It 13 supposed that he accidentally shot himßelf and bled to death,
Reeftos, Apiil 30. George Moyes and Richard Leggoe, severely injured by an explosion of dynamite, were brought into town last night from the Alpine mine, Lyell. Moyes comes from Kumarama, Auckland, and is in the hospital most severely.iujured. Both are married men with families.
Chbistchdech, April 30. Yesterday morning about 6 o'olock Mia3 Hilda Lewis, daughter of George Lewis, of Lytteltou, was found dead with her throat cut. Deceased had been ailing for a year past, and latterly her mind become affected through physical exhaustion. An inquest was held at Lyttelton this afternoon, and a verdict of "Suicide while of ussound bund" ..was returned.
A girl named Sarah Tasker, 15 years of age, found a dyDamite cap to-day, and, pricking it with a pin, had three fiagers blown off her left hand. %
On the evening of the 23rd inst. (says the Marlborough Eipress) Mrs Humphreys, with her child, and Miss Wratt, both well-known residents at Waikakabo, were crossing tho Waikakaho ford of the Wairaa river in a dog-cart, when all were thrown into the watt r and drowned. It was about dusk when tha attempt to cross the river was made, and Mr Squires, of Spring creek, whilst out nhooting on tha banks of the river, waa the fir^t to be acquainted with the sad occurrence. He was aware that tho occupants of the catt had been tD his residence, and that they had started again for home. Oq discovmog the hat of one of the ladies floating down the river his suspicions were aroused. He procoeded to the crossing, and found the cart in tho centre of the river with the shafts pointing upwards. At 11 o'clock nest morning the search parties discovered the bodies of the two ladies in close proximity to tho trap. The body of Mrs Humphreys was much disfigured, bat that of Miss Wratt was uninjured, the hand still clasping the whip. Tho trap overturned on entering the river, one wheel having dropped into a hole.
The Oamatu Mail states that the unfortunate man drowned in the Taieri riyer on Friday was named William Blake, and is well known in Oamaru. He was employed at Mr J. J. Kamsay's as a gardener. Mr Ramsay at the same time lost a valuable horse.
