Thia is due chiefly to it being close to the end of the month. _ Another factor which has affected usual sales of importing houses ia the distribution amongst retailers of the stock of a firm oi importers going out of business. The market, however, is steady and there are very few if any changes in values to report. In the bagging market there is very little busiuess doing; stocks of cornaacks, 44' a, are very low, and aa thi3 is the size which fiuda moat favour in this market buaineaa ia accordingly reßtricted. The nominal ■" quotation for 44'b is 5s 3d per dozen. Ia woolpacks there ia nothing doing. Of dri ;d fruits sultanas are moat in requeat; these have been selling freely at 4Jd per lb, and the market is, getting very bare. Elem'es are in bettor supply and are moving off at 4}d to 6d per lb. Currants are in heavy supply and the market is far from strong. The current quotation for prime samples is nominally 3id per lb. Figs have been in fair inquiry but pricea are unchanged; tbey sell at from 6d to 7d per lb, according to description of package. Fish ia dull; American salmon movea off slowly at 7s 6d to Sa per dozen for ordi- | nary first-class branda, but beyond this there ia next to nothing doing. There have been inquiries from Australia for Nelson hopa, but as yet no business has resulted, and as the New Zealand market ia pretty well regulated by the demand from the other aide value 3at present are stagnant. In Nelaon the f.o.b. quotation for parcela of prime lota is lOd to lOJd per lb. The demand for rice ia limited, and prices are little more than nominal. Dressed Japan is quoted £18 5a to £18 10a per ton, and Patna £1910 a per ton. The market is quite bare of Queensland sugars and fresh supplies of these are being looked forward to; meantime Mauritiua sugars are being taken up at £24 to .£24 10a per ton for finest whites. New Zealand Company's goes into retailers' hands at £25 5s to £2510s per ton. Trade in iron and hardware linea haa also been quiet during the week, and we have no changea in values to report. _ , The New Zealand Land Association (Limited) have received tbe following cablegram from their London office:—"Frozen meat: Mutton market dull; Canterbury mutton ia worth 4Jd per lb; Wellington mutton, 3jd per lb. There is a rather batter demand for prime New Zealand lambs which are worth per carcase s}d per lb. Tallow: Market ateady; quotations unchanged since last telegram,"
