THE CHINA INLAND MISSION.
A tea meeting was held in the Choral Hall last night in honour of Miss Gertrude Jeffreys, who leaves Dunedin to-day- for Melbourne to undergo a Bhort training prior to her departure for China to engage in mission work. There waa a large attendance upon the occasion, and after tha tea had been disposed of, the gathering took the form I of a public meeting, which was presided over by Mr Heycook. Addresses were given by the chairmt>B, by Mr Wm. Jeffreys (father of the young lady who is about to become a missionary), and by the Revs. A. North, D. Borrie, and W. Bannerman. The speakers all referred to the necessity of missionary work being carried on abroad as well as at home, and some of them congratulated Miss Jeffreys upon being called to such honourable work, and wißhed her a pleasaut voyage and success in her work. Miss Jeffreys herself also addressed the meeting, and related the circumstances which lei to her having a desire to bo to China as a missionary. It may be mentioned that the young lady, who is a daughter of Mr Wm. Jeffreys, of Mornington, will be joined in Melbourne by Miaa EllenTraill, formerly of Stewart Island, and after the two have undergone a training, they proceed together to China as missionaries in connection with tho China Inland Mission.
