CYCLING.
The Danedin Cycling Club's annual road raco (open to members of affiliated clubs) was, after several postponements on account of the weather, run off on Saturday. The course was the same as last year, starting from tbe corner of the post OiEce, in Bond street, and finishing opposite M'Kegg's Hotel, at Henley, a distance ef 21 miles. The prises were, a gold and two f dyer medals given by the club, besides a speoial prize (presented by Mr A. M'Kegg) for the rider nuking tho fastest time during the race, t.nd another by Mr 8. R. Stedmanf or the second fastest timo. Owibg to the stiff head wind blowing and tho rough state of the roads no fast times were recorded. The followicg were the starters:—M'Kenzie 1 minute, Marshall I£, Currie 4%, Simmers 6, Brugh 8, Johnston 9, Speight 10, Barclay 11, Home 12, Dodds 13, and the raco resulted thus:—J. Johnston, D.C.C. (actual riding time, lh 29min sj*sec), 1; A. Marshall, D.C.C. (actual time, lh 24min 15 3-ssec), 2; W. Speight, D.C.C. (actual time, lh 33min 55sec), 3; W. Barclay, O CC. (actual time, lh 41min), 4. R. M'Kenzie, 0.C.C., was the second man in, arriving 2min 30.< ec after Johnston, but he was disqualified for infringing tho rules. His actual timo was lh 83min 35seo, which was the fastest record. Marshall thus secured tho first special priza with Johnston tococd for the fastest time. The Dunedin Cycling Club again furnished the placed men, | The winner, J. Johnston, is quito a novice, as he has only been riding a few months, and this waß his first attempt at racing. Tho veteran A. Marshall, winner of last year's road race, was again to the fore, and bad it not been for a spill in somo loose metal on Hillside would have lieen much closer up at the finish. W. Speight, who was picked as the winner by the kuowing ] ones, rede well to the top of Saddle Hill, but unfortunately took cramp whilo descending the other side, and only secured third place. Barclay, the fourth man,.iß another young rider, this being his flrst season. Like some of the other riders, he fouud tho stiff head wind rather much for him. Currie, Home, and Simmers were the other riders to finish. Johnston and Speight both rode 34£tb Raglan machines, while Marshall's mount was a Humber weighing 33£lb.
