FOOTBALL.

The Dunedin Club held their opening practice match on Saturday on the Caledonian ground between sides captained by T. Martin

(Blues) and Doull (Colours). There were a

good number of new members present, but very few of last year's players. The game resulted in a victory for the Colours by 19 points to 14. Tries were secured by Connor, Davis, Doull, Sincock (2), Williams, M'Kenzie, J. Martin, and T. Marlin. The game was fast throughout, and good form was shown by Mason, Best, M'Kersey, Martin, Davis, and Watkins. The Zingari-Richmond held their opening practice match President v. Vice-president at Montecillo on Saturday. Sides were chosen on the ground, and after a very olose and interesting game victory rested with the President's team by 7 points to 5. The Caversham Football Club played a practice match at St. Clair Park on Saturday, a picked fifteen meeting the rest of the club. Tho game resulted in a win for the Fifteen by 12 points to 7. The ground being in splendid order, the game became very fast. Tho splendid passing among the backs was tho principal feature of it. Tho forwards, who are fairly fast, played well individually, but lacked combination. Peebles, Eagle, Coxon, and Lawry scored tries for the Fifteen, while Hobson scored for the Club and M'Laren placed a neat goal. M'Laren also placed a goal from a penalty kick.

The Meirose played their opening match on the Asylum ground President v. Vice-president, the former's side winning after a good game (17 points to 10). For the winners Larkins, Peden, Lyng, and Lambeth (2) scored tries, T. King converting one. Dundon scored two tries for the Vice-president's side, and Bolton and Stanley each placed a goal. The Golden Star opened their season by playing a match President v. Vice-president, and after a well contested game the former's side won by 11 points to 9. The Rangers (Association) Club played a scratch match between sides chosen by the csptain aud deputy-captain. After a hard game the latter side won by two goals to one. There was an improvement of play all round, the week's training taiiig responsible for this. | Thero was a good muster of players at the Union Club's practice match, when sides were captained by Beadle and H. Harris, the latter's team proving victorious by 16 points to 15. The play was of a rather nondescript character, thongh there were occasional instances of good work. Of the new members, Clarke made a few fast dodgy runs, but his defensive work and passing are weak points in his play. A meeting of the Zealandia Association Football Club was held in the Hanover street rooms on Saturday night, Mr A. A. Adams being voted to the chair. Mr E. C. Hutton was elected president, and Messrs A. A. Adams, H. H. Driver, and T. B, Downes vice-presidents. Mr L. Hutton was appointed captain, and Mr G. Churchill deputy-captain. A discussion took place aB to whether the club should play aB a senior club, as previously decided, or as a junior, and it was finally resolved to adhere to the original idea. Ifc was mentioned that the olub intended to play on the reclaimed ground, near Sargood's factory. It was resolved that members not wearing the club's colours in interclub matches should, unless some very good_reason was shown, be disqualified from playing. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
