SUICIDE BY POISON.

A man named Irwin, living,in Alexandra, was supposed to have taken Btrychnine. The police, hea'ribg of the occurrence,.went to his house last night. He refused to give any information. The constable, seeing the man ill, gave him an emetic of salt and water, and sent for Dr Lawry, who iised "the stomach pump. They secured two empty packets, both marked "poison — strychnine." A, cup containing crystals on the inside was found on the table; Mrs Irwin: stated that her husband had been drinking for the last few days. They had driven him home in ;their trap about half-past 5 in the afternoon. He went into the back yard and came back again, and when she next .saw him he had a white paper in his. hand marked ." poison," which he shook over a cup, and then drank the contents. -Irwin died shortly after admission to the hospital. • .
