ChristchurcHj October 20. The raiDS of last night prohibited work on the plough this morning, and all tha horses worked on the tan. Cutts was out before daylight, and sent Kotuku twice round at halfpace, and Retina followed iv similar work, while Awarua Rose was sweated four times round accompanied by Yon Tempsky over a mile and £-half. St. Hippo and Dancer were spun out over a mile and a-half, both going very well, but Dancer's front action is nob very taking. He cau gallop fast, however. Launceston did a strong once round after covering a circuit at half-pace, and Flinders was given three-quarter speed work twice round with a spurt at. the finish in the interests of the Dunlop colt, who accompanied him over the last circuit.' Captive, going well, negotiated a couple of miles at a good rate, and Crackshot compassed two rounds at half and three-quarter p.!?o. Vogengang was sent tsvice round at half pie-?. Lunn sent Norton and Merrie England two rounds, the pair coveriug the last mile strongly, and Kulnine galloped steadily over the same journey. Inez (Charlie Stratford up) traversed a double, covering a mile at nearly top, and Black Pearl and Diadem travelled a circuit, going three furlongs at top. ■ Some two-year-olds and other horses engaged in minor eventsalso worked. At a meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association the president gave an account of his doings in Wellington with regard to the totalisator. He stated that he aud Mr Rattray had interviewed various members of Parliament en the matter. He found that the Government had taken uo steps towards a definite solution of the difficulty, and was ouly too anxious to listen to recommendations. With the help of various members of Parliament, they had drafted regulations as regards added amounts, which were as follow: — Clubs having one day's racing per year would have to give LIOO away in stakes per diem; two days, Ll5O per diem ; three days, L2OO per diem; and four dajs L4OO per diem. These the Government thought would meet the case, and the regulations would come into force on January 1 next.
