MELBOURNE AND TRAINING BETTING NOTES.

Bi SS.2CTMC TKIiBBK4?H.—OOPI'KISItV, | (Per Piiess Association.) Melbourne, October 20. (Received October 20, at 12.25 p.m.)

At Flemington this morning the tracks -were much improved, and some real good was accomplished. Portsea was sent a mile and three-quarters, which he wound up in 3min 25seo. Autonomy finished three lengths in advance of Camoola in an 11-furlong spin, traversed in 2min 30sec. The gallop is regarded as a bad one-on the part of the Derby favourite. Titan strode over a mile and a-half in excellent style in 2tnin 4-93 ec, and Jericho regisbered a similar performance. Oxide and Chatham spun once round the sand track in 2min 33Jsec. Candour was sent the same

journey, but took 2min 43sec. Candour is proverbially bad on the track, but is a beautiful mover. Vestatia beat Currawang in a fivefurlong flutter, traversed in lmin 6£sec. Little Bernie cleared away from Althotas in a twoniile gallop, the last eleven furlongs being done in 2min 32sec. Hopetoun wound up a magnificent mile and a-half gallop in 2min 42£ sec; he finished very strong, and is thought to have an excellent outside chance for the Melbourne Cup.

(Received October 20, at 9.45 p.m.)

Gresford and Litigant have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. At Caulfield this morniug Theodore beat Correze over a mile and a-half in 2min 48sec ; whilst Mcli had the best of Dundas over the same distance, but took half a second longer than Theodore to accomplish the task. Stern-

chaser was given long medium pacing. Tirailleur was not on the track, being away for swimming exercise. Malvolio was sent over two miles and a-half at three-quarter pace. The betting market is still dull, and prices are virtually unchanged. A wager of 500 to 400 was taken about Camoola for the Derby, and also several at 100 to 4 about St. AVbaus for the big event.
