Auckland, September 29. WosLUNGroN, September 29. At the meeting of the City Council it was decided that a return of the number of fires and damage to buildings should be published in the local newspapers half-yearly. The mayor (Mi- H. D. The Marine department has received advice from Russell that the Natives say that the wreckage found near there came ashore five weeks ago. Another telegram has been received stating that a thorough search of Red Head aud adjacent islands has been made, but no more wreckage was discovered. The wreckage at Rarihiti is to be sent to Auckland for the purpose of identification.

By an order-in-couucil the North Island is excluded from the operation of the Bth, 9th, and 10th sections of " The Oyster Fisheries Act 1892."

At a meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association it was resolved to endorse the action of the Otago A. aud P. Society in removing the disqualification from Mr T. Lewis for a breach of the rules of the southern association. The North Obago Association wrote askiug for assistance in meeting an expense of L3OO incurred in connection with a claim for damages made against it by Mr D. Genge, whose son was accidentally killed by a stray bullet from a shooting gallery. It was resolved, on the motion of the president— " That, while the association was unable to contribute any sum out of its funds, it would be willing to open a subscription list amongst its members." A sum of money was subscribed by members in the room. In view of the unfortunate occurrence at the Oamaru show, the committee decided to prohibit shooting galleries aud other dangerous amusements on the ground at show time.

The North Canterbury Board of Education held a meeting to-day to consider the inspectors' reports on the boys' department of the Normal School, and the headmaster's reply thereto. The busiuess was conducted in committee, and the following resolution was passed :—" That owing to the unsatisfactory state of things that has arisen in the boys' department in the Normal School, tho whole of the teachers be asked to resign without prejudice, so that a complete re-organisation of the staff may take place."
