CAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Caver-, sham Council was held last Thursday, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr R. Wilson), Crs Hancock, Rutherford, Bridgman, M'lndoe, Ruston, Boyes, Yates, Rae, and M'Laren. REPORTS.
The Finance Committee reported that the sum of L 135 lite 4(1 had been lodged in tho bank since last meeting. They recommended that L437s 4d general accounts and L(i 8s water supply account be passed for payment.—Adopted. The Works and Baths Committee reported having considered a letter complaining of the danger arising through the growth of furze on private lands within tho borough. The committee had referred the matter to the inspector to report upon. The committee had authorised the inspector to procure 20 loads of rotten rock for Victoria street and other places at St. Claii ; also, to attend to the nuisance arising from stagnant water in Edward street.—Adopted. The Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Committee reported having authorised the inspector to procure 500 ft of Mn and 150 ft of 2in galvanised iron water pipes. They had given instructions that the fire plug on St. Kilda road I>b shifted to Park street.—The committee recommended the council to instruct the inspector to lay 2i chains of Bin drainage pipes in Vernal street from Park street to the south side of Grosvenor street.—Adopted. The Inspector reported that the rotten rock had been spread in Victoria and other streets. To repair Eraser street would take about 20yds of rotten rock, and the cost would be abont L 3. With regard to the gorse on Royal and Brunswick terraces, there was not a large quantity. There was a little on Victoria and other streets that should be cleared off. There was a large quantity in a paddock adjoining Brunswick terrace, which belonged to Mr Sidey and others. These should be made to clear the gorse away to a width of at least one chain from any boundary fences, and keep it clear to that width.—The first two clauses of the report were adopted, and it was decided that Mr Sidey's attention be called to the matter of the gorse. CORRESPONDENCE. The South Dunedin Council wrote agreeing to the erection of a fence on the Forbury road.— The Tramway Company wrote-re Forbury road, stating that the company were willing to place guard rails along the road provided the council would relieve the company from any responsibility from accidents that might occur to other vehicles through the same. Surprise was expressed at the statement that cars were driven round the curve at a furious rate, and an emphatic denial was given to this. The drivers had been specially instructed to drive at a slow pace through the points referred to—an instruction that the company were quite sure was strictly complied with. The'letter was received, the Mayor mentioning that two cabmen had called on him complaining of the tram rails near Hayes' Hotel. MOTION. In pursuance of a report of the Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Committee, Cr Bridoman moved, Cr M' fKUOE seconded, and it was resolved —"That the council pay the half cost of seven mud tanks and 100 yds of rotten rock provided the cost of the work did not exceed LIS; and that when tanks were required for the other side of Macandrew road that the South Dunedin Council contribute half cost."
