X\i — 'Rongoa" cures WOUNDS, Piles, Burns, Ulcers and discharging Sores, Erysipelas. Sunburn, Chapped Hands, Eczema, and other Skin diseases. RONGOA—as the name implies—is a curative of Maori origin, the principal constituent of the Ointment and Lotion being a vegetable product peculiar to New Zealand, which, in its primitive state, has been long known and highly prized as a sovereign remedy amongst the Maoris, who attribute to it almost supernatural powers. The method of so preparing it as to retain all its healing properties was known to one family only, and handed down from generation to generation until some years ago, when the last surviving member, an old woman whose declining years had been provided for by a pakeha, disclosed the hitherto jealously guarded secret to her benefactor. But though the Maoris kuew the value of the remedy and appreciated its power, their preparation was rude, incomplete, and difficult of application. Ignorance had introduced superstition where science ought to have ruled. The remedy was, however, prepared according to the directions received and handed to a medical man, who was asked to put its powers fairly to the test. He did so, and the results exceeded the most sanguine expectations formed concerning it. Though the preparation was necessarily still somewhat crude, he treated with it obstinate sores, ulcers, eczema, and other more serious diseases of the skin, with never-failing success. Even in extensive wounds, hen erysipelas had set in and defied the usual remedies, a few applications of the lotion effected a complete cure. The value of the remedy having been thus proved beyond a doubt, it was necessary to study how the defects in its preparation could be remedied, and here great difficulties were encountered. After much time and labour spent in exhaustive experiments, all obstacles have at length been removed, and not only has " Rongoa " been rendered easy of application, but its healing powers, at first known only in part, have now been fully developed. It is, therefore, with perfect confidence that "Rongoa" is now E laced before the public, not as an experiment, ut as a remedy carefully prepared and systematically tested ; a remedy which justly claims to be, of its kind, the greatest curative agent of the day, and one entirely free from injurious substances, vide report from Dr Black, Government Analyst :— " University Laboratory, "Dunedin, September 18, 1891. " I have carefully examined ' Rongoa,' and find it to be composed of antiseptic substances. It docs not contain any corrosive or poisonous materials. From the nature of its ingredient!!, I consider it a valuable healing application. "Jajiks G. Black." " Rongoa " is prepared both as an ointment and as a lotion. In mild cases the ointment alone is sufficient. It may be used on the most delicate skin, and applied without fear even in the case of infants. It contains no animal fat, and therefore does not become rancid, this alone rendering it superior to other preparations in which lard and like substances are, on the score of cheapness, largely used. Prepared only liy the "RONGOA" MANUFACTURING COMPANY.
