THE FROZEN MEAT MARKET.

Messrs Arthur M'Dortald and Co. have received •the following report, dated December 11, 1891, from their London meat salesmen, Messrs Henry to. lutter and Sons. Both the meat and poultry markets continue to recaive heavy supplies from *1I parts. Game is very plentiful and cheap. The . supply of pork is also increasing, and prices are very low. The weather during the past fortnight lias been wet and mild. Tho supply of Scotch, inglish, and Dutch inuttdn show's no signs of fall-! jwig off nt present. Probably, however, the quan- j »tity of land now under water is the cause of many i sheep being put on the market which, had the season been a dryer one, would have been kept on, tfprwefind that many of the sheep coining from the low-lying districts are showing signs of the rot. This will, we think, tend to make mutton dearer in the spring and summer. The frozen ; amitton trade has not yot much improved. There Tire plenty of sheep on the market, and some very low prices are still being taken'for stale sheep. Ihei stock m hand is not now quite so heavy, and with smaller quantities to arrive in tho immediate future, we are anticipating better results shortly. We would again mention that some of the North Canterbury sheep have lately been very plain. Ihe trade for American beef is again heavy, the quality still mostly indifferent, and prices so low that it is impossible to sell frozeu beef at anything dike satisfactory prices; in./act, the demand \even at the extremely low prices quoted) is very •slow. Some of the bepf-wiups are much too thin, and get very much torn> To-day's prices arc as follows:—Scotch sheep, 4s2dta4sMporsfcmo of 81b; English do, 3s 8d ;£ 0 £s 2d do; Continental, 2s 8d to 3s 8d do; ewes, •2s lOd to 3s 2d «W, Canterbury (N.Z.) sheep, 2s 7d fto 2s lOd do; Wellington do do, 2s 4d to 2s 6d do; Queensland do, 2s 3a do; Sydney do, 2s 3d do; River Plate do, 2s to 2s 2d do; New Zealand beef, hindquarters, 2s do ; do forequarters, Is lOd to 2s rto; American do, hind quarters, 2s 8d to 3s 6d do; do, fore quarters, 13 8d to Is lOd do.
