DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.

The report of the Dunedin Jockey Club for season 1890-91, which is to be laid before the annual meeting on the 21st hist., is as follows :—

Your committee have much pleasure in submitting the balance sheet showing the financial transactions of the club for the year. The usual number of race meetings have been held, and, until the Spring meeting, all left a satisfactory balance; but at that meeting the amount passed through the totalisator fell off, as compared with the amount passed through at the correspondingmeeting of last year, by no less a sum than L5513, and the loss of commission on this amount, coupled with the payment of the Government tax, which came to L351 5s Id, left no margin on the meeting. Your committee had placed a further sum of L1503 to the credit of the deposit account prior to the Spring meeting, but the absence of any surplus on that meeting has left the club's bank account overdrawn to the extent of L876 Kis.ld, which will have to be paid off before any addition is made to the deposit account; and if the club continues to pay the Government tax there is not any possibility of the deposit account being practically increased in. the future beyond the addition, perhaps, of the yearly income arising from the amount now at the credit of this account. The number of members has increased suffieiently to show that greater interest is being taken in the. club's affairs. Additional improvements have been made on the racecourse and belongings, all of which are in excellent working order.

The following gentlemen have been nominated for election:.—President, Hon. George M'Lean; vice-president, Mr John Stephenson ; committee (of whom six are to be elected) — Messrs G. Dowse, H. Driver, H. Gourley, J. Grindley, T. Grose, J. -Hazlett, J. Mills, M.H.R., P. Miller,'W. L Philp, J. B. Reid.
