TIjSTIFIABLE PROVOCATION. The word Wateebuby (the name of the city in the U.S.A. where these celebrated watches are manufactured) has become a synonym throughout these colonies, as elsew ere, for all that is exact and trustworthy as regards to pocket timepieces. The Waterbury watches themselves provoke the admiration of all who wear them. The testimony in their favour is overwhelming, and admits of no dispute, while their reputation stands absolutely unrivalled. All their parts are made by the most beautiful automatic machinery so wonderfully perfect that it would seem impossible for human ingenuity to accomplish more. The Australasian Agents of the Waterbury Watch Company have received thousands of testimonials from grateful wearers of their watches, and every mail brings fresh evidence in support of their wonderful popularity. The following are a few samples of the opinions of those who, having worn these watches.havelearned from experience to appreciate their excellentqualities: —Messrs Mudie & Co., general storekeepers, Warrnmbungul, write under date July 30, 1890 : "We have received the watches sent by you, which have given great satisfaction. As to the one repaired, the owner would not give it for the best English lever. He says, " It has been a right good friend to me, and I mean to stick to it to the last, and have it " doctored " each time it is ill, the same as myself, and that is not often.'" Mr Akthub Taplin, Cobitty, March 3, 1890, writes:—"l am perfectly satisfied with the Waterbury Watch I have in my possession. I've seen a good many of the watches, and it is the general opinion that they are good, cheap watches." Mr James Buckley, Hanging Rock, February 7, 1890, writes:—"l consider the Waterbury Watch one of the premier watches of the age, and an invaluable boon to miners and bushmen. Considering the number in use in this district there can be no two opinions as to the general satisfaction they give." Mr Geo. Plummeb, storekeeper, Dubbo, July 18,1890, writes:—" lam using one of " J " Waterburys with every satisfaction, and have sold scores. In no case have I had any complaints from buyers." Mr Geohge Alywyn, (Jurley station, Narrabri, August 22, 1890, writes:—" I have carried one of the old series Waterbury Watches for over two years, doing a good deal of riding, and have found it give entire satisfaction, and it has never yet required repair. I have now been using one of the " J " series for the last year, and find it equal to the best watch I ever had." The faithful Waterbury Watches may be obtained from any respectable storekeeper or dealer throughout New Zealand. Price: Series B, the old favourite, 13s Gd ; Series J (Gents' size) and L (Ladies' size), the new marvels of American horological ingenuity— shortwinding, stem-setting, and with enamel dials, 22s 6d each. Caution.—lntending purchasers should note the fact that all watches manufactured by the Waterbury Watch Company have the word " Waterbury " printed in fine type upon their dial faces, and also the interlaced letters W.W. Co., without which 'no watch sold as a Waterbury is genuine. Wholesale agents for Otago and Southland, the NEW Zealand Habdwabe Company (Limited), Dunedin and Invercargill; Saegood, Son, and Ewen, Dunedin ; and John Bdmond, Princes street, Dunedin. x HOW TO SAVE £100 A YEAR IN HOUSEKEEPING EXPENSES. The ruin of many a hard-working man is brought about by his wife's inexperience in housekeeping matters. The obliging tradesman who offers to supply her on the " long credit system " is sure to obtain her patronage. She little drsams that she is paying through the nose for everything. It is a fact that firms who allow credit HAVE to charge 30 or 50 per cent, more for their goods than those doing business on purely cash principles. This means to some families a loss of £150 or so a year, or, to put it in other words they might have had *£150 more in the bank had they dealt at " cash houses," —J. Peterson and Co. continue to supply goods of the best quality at the lowest cash prices at their shops in George and Walker streets.

—Dr Tucker, ths Evangelical bishop who baa Bucoseded to the dangerous diecese of Equatorial Africa, rendered vacant by the murdar of the heroic Bishop Hannington, has arrived at Uganda, after terrible and prolonged sufferings. A hundred miles of the long journey were through a dense, foodless foreßt, infested by savage robbew, who murdered stragglers and stole loads at every opportunity. Holloway's Pills and Ointment.—Some occur patiunj tend to the development of certain diseases, and those who toil so miners are peculiarly liable to rhrumatism, lumbago, and other allied complaints. In the goldfields and copper mlneß Holloway'* remedies have been largely patronised by the workers to their very great advantage, and they can ha confidently recommended as invaluable remedies for inward congestions, spasms, and cr&mpß in the bowelß, and all thoße conditions of the lungs and liver to which those who work underground or in impure atmospheres are so peculiarly liable. For cuts, bruiaeß, sprains, and stiffened joints, the action of Holloway's Ointment is eminently healing and soothing, and a supply should always be at hand in case of nee*. 18
