Wellington, May 14.
The Gazette notifies that whereas malt acid has properties in part which can be used for a similar purpose as vinegar, a duty of 6s 6il per gallon is levied on it.
The Governor holds an undress levee here on Tuesday, 26th inst., in honour of the Queen's birthday.
John Edwin March is gazetted superintendent of village settlements for the colony. The appointment of J. D. Ritchie as chief inspector of the Stock department is gazettedJ. R. Somerville, late of the Alexandra Cavalry, is appointed major on the unattached aotive list, New Zealand Volunteers.
Lieutenants-colonel Btapp, Butts, and Shepherd, lato officers commanding districts, have been promoted to be colonels on the honorary unattached list New Zealand Volunteers.
Major Feldwick, of New Zealand Regiment of Artillery, has been promoted to be lieutenantcolonel.
D. Stronacb, late captain Otago Hussars, ia appointed honorary major of that troop. Lieutenant Hislop, Wellington Navals, has been transferred to the unattached active list with the rank of lieutenant commanding. Further decisions of the Commissioner of Customs under the tariff acts are gazetted.
