The immigration and emigration returns for the colony for April show the arrivals to have been 1045, and the departures 1656, being a balance of 611 against the colony. The chief arrivals were:— From New South Wale 3, 590; Victoria, 262; United Kingdom, 97. The departures were .— To New South Wale?, 813; Victoria, 355; United Kingdom, 326; Tasmania, 60. Tiro Chinese arrived and one left duriug the month. The imports for quarter euded March were £l,737,4BO,'against £1,688.797 for the corresponding quarter of 1890. The chief contributions were:— Auckland Wellington 327,917 Ljttelton 348,409 Dunedin ... ... •■• 419,180 The exports for the last quarter were £3,778,275, as compared with £3,785,437 for the first quarter of last year.
