THE WATER BLAST PRINCIPLE OF VENTILATION. TO THE EDITOR.

Sib, —A paragraph in your issue of the 26th January last referring to an improved sjstem o£ ventilation proposed to be introduced by Messrs Anderson and Morrison, of your city, has just come under my notice. The inference to be be drawn from your report is that the adaptation of the well-known water blaßfc principle to purposes of ventilation, as proposed by Messrs Anderson and Morrison, ia a new invention, and their application for letters patent in respect thereof confirms thi3 inference.

Permit me then to inform you that the idea of utilising the well-known principle referred to was, so far as I know, first conceived by myself nnd practically adapted to ventilating purposes on my own premises some six or seven yeara ago, where it is at the preseut moment still working as originally planned. The simplicity of the system and the thoroughness with which it acted waa soon recognised as a great advance over previous methods, and I had the satisfaction of receiving a practical proof of that fact in the shape of nn order from the authorities to ventilate the Government Printing Office here on my improved system, and later the General Foat Office.

As it is now close on five years since the printing office was ventilated on the water jet principle, it is evident that Messrs Anderson and Morrison aro rather late in tho day with their alleged discovery.—l am, tea., Wellington Plumbing Works, J. B. Hates. Wellington, February 13.
