I The general district meeting of the New Zealand Central District of tho Independent Order of Rechabitea was opened to - day. Delegates were present from Wellington, Napier, Blenheim, Waipukurau, Sandon, Waipawa, Nelson, New Plymouth, Dunedin, Chri3tehurch, Invercargill, Norsewood, Ormondville, Woodville, Masterton, Carterton, Wake : field,' Keikora, and Pukaka. The D.C.R. read his opening address", in which he urged the the necessity of s revised financial 6cale, and quoted figures showing the wonderful growth of tho order. In 1855 the membership was 5856; in 1870, including juveniles, 19,791; in 1889. 129,861. The accumulated funds in 1865 were £45,000; in 1889, £499,000.
