SIR G. GREY ON FEDERATION.
(Pee United Pbess Association.) Auckland, February 13. Sir George Grey states that he has greatly improved in health by his visit to Rotorua. It is a quarter of a century since he was lasfc there. In an interview, speaking regarding fche Federal Convention, Sir George said he had always been working for Australian federation, but for the present, he thought New Zealand should remain oufc. If this colony joined, ifc would ba an embarrassment; to Australia. A federation of all the English speaking races was the form he approved of. Under such a scheme each English speaking nation would continue to arrange its own internal affairs. Such a federation proposal would likely load to changes in the constitution of the colonies. Ifc seemed to him that in lhe event of such federation questions of defence would be effeofcually settled.
